Obesity: England’s most pressing healthcare challenge?
"It is clear that socio-economic factors such as underemployment or poverty play a key role in driving obesity and poor health, and that a whole government approach is critical in order to reduce health inequalities and obesity rates.” - Prof Rachel Batterham
In this documentary produced in September 2021, Prof Rachel Batterham and the Royal College of Physicians will explore the biological and social factors that explain why as a society, we are overweight and living with obesity. Rachel will meet the U.K.’s leading experts, visit families in deprived areas facing obesity and health inequalities, and look at what needs to be done. The 4 main themes of the documentary are genetics, healthy food poverty, weight stigma and why we need to recognise obesity as a disease. The findings will then be used in a parliamentary presentation to help the government strategy.
I am proud to be involved in this excellent documentary ( 30 minutes in length) as an advocate for People Living with Overweight and Obesity.
