A Nutritional analysis of Snack Bars
After analysing over 450 snack bars, the report found an average of 7g of sugar per serving - equivalent to nearly 2 teaspoons or almost a third of a child’s entire daily sugar limit in just one bar! This is despite many snack bars being marketed with phrases such as “high protein”, “source of fibre” and “no added sugar”. These claims highlight isolated benefits and create a ‘health halo’ effect, masking less healthy nutritional qualities and making consumers less informed of what they’re really eating.
